Cât de plauzibil este ca doi vagabonzi – unul roscat cu mustăti si patru picioare si unul cu doua picioare si fost dependent de heroină să se salveze reciproc si – pe deasupra – să devină un cuplu vedetă? Ei bine, acum aproape un an Anglia, un fost om al strazii pe nume James Bowen a publicat o carte despre cum a salvat un pisic maidanez care l-a salvat la rândul lui si i-a dat un scop în viată. 
Povestea începe când James, un tânăr fără casă si aparent fără sperantă s-a mutat într-un bloc social după ce trăise ani buni pe stradă, si îsi câstiga pâinea cântând pe stradă. Într-o seară, a găsit un pisic vizibil vagabond si într-o stare destul de proastă (fusese atacat de un animal mare, probabil un câine sau o vulpe)How plausible is that to homeless-one russet with mustaches and four legs and another with two  legs and former heroin addicted to save each other and-withal-to became a star couple? Well, almost one year ago in England , a former homeless James Bowen published a book about how saving a street cat who also saved him and gave him a new goal in life.

, a încercat să îi găsească familia, si când s-a asigurat că e al nimănui, s-a hotărât să-l ducă la doctor să-l trateze, să-l deparaziteze, să-l vaccineze si să-l castreze. La început n-a vrut să-l tină pentru că de abia putea avea grijă de el, cum să fie responsabil si pentru un sufletel fără apărare?
A încercat să-l facă să plece singur si nu-l mai lăsa în casă singur sperând că o să plece în drumul lui. Dar pisicul nu a vrut să plece si s-a tinut după el până l-a convins pe James că nu are de gând să-l lase singur si că e în stare să vină cu el oricât de departe neinteresandu-l unde si cât de confortabil este. Astfel, cei doi au devenit o echipă, iar la un moment dat au ajuns să vândă revista The Big Issue (un program englez în care persoane defavorizate cumpără revista The Big Issue ieftin si o vând la un pret mai mult sau mai putin dublu, astfel făcând profit) tot pe străzile Londrei. Astfel un tânăr invizibil – cum spune chiar James – a devenit vizibil si si-a recâstigat speranta cu ajutorul unui pisic care atrăgea oamenii în jurul lui, îi crestea vânzările considerabil, si astfel amândoi ajunseseră să trăiască decent. Fără ca nimeni să îsi dea seama, Bob a ajuns vedetă pe YouTube si într-o zi James a fost plăcut surprins să afle că vin din ce în ce mai multe grupuri de turisti străini care vor să-l vadă pe Bob. Dupa un timp, o agentă literară care trecea în fiecare zi pe lângă el i-a propus să-si scrie povestea, si asa a apărut cartea A Street Cat Named Bob, acum si cu o editie pentru copii Bob – No Ordinary Cat.
Nu stiu când si dacă va ajunge carte în România, dar stiu că a fost tradusă în italiană, portugheză, germană, olandeză si taiwaneză până acum, iar cartea originală în engleză se tot republică, iar Bob si James merg prin librarii să semneze cărti de câteva ori pe lună, când nu stau undeva pe stradă. Ei atrag multimi, cântă, îsi fac poze, semnează cărti si daca cine vrea să fie la curent cu ce se întâmplă cu cei doi poate intra pe pagina lor de Facebook sau pe https://twitter.com/StreetCatBob. Exista multe filmulete pe Youtube cu cei doi, inclusiv un mini-documentar si un interviu emotionant.
Am citit această carte pe răsuflate, nu am putut-o lăsa din mana. Povestea este în acelasi timp tristă si veselă, te atinge la inimă, ti-e milă dar te si impresionează cum două suflete vulnerabile si fără sperantă au devenit împreună un tot unitar mai puternic si mai impresionant decât orice poveste voit lacrimogenă. Nici James nici Bob nu se plâng, îsi pretuiesc prietenia cu o naivitate pe care unii ar numi-o copilărească. James nu îl fortează niciodată pe Bob să iasă dacă nu are chef – si au fost câteva zile când Bob pur si simplu i-a spus că nu vrea să meargă si l-a lăsat acasă. James a fost alături de Bob când a fost bolnav si l-a îngrijit, iar Bob a stat alături de James zilele si orele în care a renuntat complet la droguri si a trecut prin sevraj. James recunoaste că îi datorează lui Bob faptul că acum are un scop în viată, si îl numeste cu afectiune „this little man” (acest omulet). Bob are mii de prieteni, îi place să fie în centrul atentiei si James este fericit să îl acompanieze.
Când am citit cartea am crezut că Bob este un pisic special (desi, într-adevăr este!) si că povestea este unică, dar m-a contrazis un pisic negru care s-a aciuiat în fasa casei noastre. Părea să fi fost de rasă, era vorbăret, murdar si înfometat, în stare să accepte orice numai să îsi câstige o familie. Până la urmă i-am găsit un stăpân pentru că noi nu nu am putut să-l păstrăm, dar ne-a cucerit imediat pentru că a fost în stare să se dăruiască total unor străini si s-ar fi adaptat imediat. Nu-l deranjau alte animale (eram la tară unde pisicile si câinii din vecini vin foarte des pe la noi), nu l-a deranjat că i-am pus o păturică în sufragerie si numai acolo a stat. Apoi mi-am dat seama că era doar recunoscător că nu mai e pe stradă. Stia ce înseamnă să ai familie, stia ce înseamnă să fii pe drumuri, stia cum este să fii al nimănui. 
În final povestea pisicului negru s-a terminat bine, are o familie, e fericit, dar când mă gândesc la alte animălute adulte (pisici, cătei si nu numai) care trec prin asa ceva si nu au norocul să aibă o familie care să le ofere dragoste si să le îngrijească, nu mai sunt asa de optimistă. Înteleg că majoritatea celor care adoptă vor un puisor pe care să-l formeze, dar nu toate animalele adulte sunt needucate si sălbatice. Dacă sunt luate de pe stradă, ele vor fi recunoscătoare si vor întelege că trebuie să facă unele sacrificii si să accepte orice în schimbul hranei si dragostei. Evident, există indivizi si indivizi, dar atunci când adoptati nu excludeti un animălut doar pentru că e adult!The story starts when James, a young man without house and apparently without hope, moved into a social building after he lived many years on the street, where he earned his bread singing. One night, he found a homeless cat in a bad condition(was attacked by a big animal, probably a dog or a fox),he tried to find his family and when he was sure that  the cat is homeless, he decided to bring the little cat to a vet to heal him, to deworm, vaccinate and castrate him. In the beginning, he didn’t want to keep the cat because he barely was able to care for him, but how to be responsible for a helpless soul?

He tried to make him to go alone and never left him alone in the house hoping that he will go in his way. But the kitten didn’t want to leave and was held after him until he convinced James that he will not leave him alone and he is able to come with him as far uninterested where and how comfortable is. So, they became a team and at one time came to sell The Big Issue magazine(an English program where needy people buy The Big Issue magazine cheap and sell it  at a price more or less double, thus making profit)all the streets of London . So, an invisible young man-as James says even became visible and regained hope with a cat which attracted people around him, his sales grew considerably, and so both had come to live decently. Without anyone realizing, Bob became a star on YouTube and one day James was pleasantly surprised to find that many foreign groups are coming to see Bob. After a while, a literary agency who every day was passing around him proposed to write his story, and so  it appeared the book A Street Cat Named Bob, and  now a children’s edition Bob – No Ordinary Cat.

I do not know when and if the books will come in Romania, but I know it has been translated into Italian, Portuguese, German, Dutch and Taiwanese so far, and the original English version is still publishing, and Bob and James are going through the library to sign books several times a month, when they are not somewhere on the streets. They attract crowds, sing, do their pictures, signing books and if someone wants to be aware of what happens to the two, they can join their Facebook page  or on https://twitter.com/StreetCatBob. There are many videos on YouTube with them, including a mini-documentary and a touching interview.

I read this book on stale; I could not put it down. The story is both sad and happy, it is touching your heart, but I feel pity and impressed how two souls vulnerable and hopeless became a powerful and more impressive than any story deliberately lachrymatory. Neither James nor Bob does not complain, they value their friendship with a naivety that some would call it childish. James never forces him to leave if he doesn’t want it-and there were some days when Bob just said he did not want to go and left him home.

James was with Bob when he was ill and cared for him, and Bob stood with James in those hours and days when he completely gave up drugs and went up in withdrawal. James admits that he owes Bob because now he has a new purpose in life, and affectionately is calling him „this little man”. Bob has thousands of friends, likes to be the center of attention and James is happy to accompany him.

When I read the book I thought Bob is a special cat (though it really is!) And the story is unique, but contradicted me a black cat in front of our house who was sheltered. Seem to have been a breed cat, was talkative, dirty and hungry, able to accept anything but to earn a family. Eventually I found a master for him because we could not keep him, but he soon won us because he was able to devote completely to foreigners and would it be easier to adapt immediately. He wasn’t bother by others animals (we were in the country where cats and dogs from the neighborhood come very often to us), didn’t bother that I put a blanket in the living room and just stood there. Then I realized that he was just grateful that he’s off the street. He knew what it means to have family, knew what it means to be on the road, and knew as being of anyone. Finally black cat story ended well, has a family, is happy, but when I think of other adult animal (cats, dogs and not only) who are passing in something like that and don’t have luck to find a family which provide them love and care, I am not so optimistic.

I understand that most people who adopt want a baby animal that they could form, but not all adults are uneducated and wild animals. If they are taken from the street, they will be grateful and will understand that they have to make some sacrifices and to accept everything in exchange for food and love. Obviously, there are persons and persons, but when you adopt a pet don’t exclude him only because it’s an adult!
